BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 

Executive Director

Tom Ecker is a Millersville University graduate with B.S. and M.Ed. degrees.  His career includes a significant period serving as a Human Resources Manager with a Fortune 500 company.  Currently, he is working as a Career Counselor.

Tom has been actively involved with Millersville Athletics since 1976.  He was the Founder and Director of the Millersville Metrics, has served as the Director of the Millersville Turkey Trot for over 20 years, and has helped co-ordinate the former Summer Track & Field series over the last 30 years.


Chairman of the Board

Bob Vasile is a 1983 graduate of Millersville University.  He ran cross country for four years for MU, from 1979-1982.  This includes 1981, the year the team won the NCAA DII National Championship.  Bob will continue to FIGHT for the men's cross country and track & field programs at MU until they are reinstated. Bob founded and operated several businesses and is now retired.


Chair Emeritus

Eugene "Cy" Fritz gave a lifetime of service to Millersville University and was one of the most successful coaches in their history.  His record as head cross country coach from 1969-1985 was 126-16. His teams won PSAC and Regional titles and 2 IC4A titles. In 1981, he guided his team to MU’s 1st NCAA DII National Championship and was named National Coach of the Year.  Cy was head track & field coach from 1970-1974. He had a 41-3 record, including a PSAC title.  He was assistant coach from 1975-1982.

From 1968 until his retirement in 1997, Fritz was on the Dept. of Health and Physical Education faculty and was MU's Director of Intramurals and Recreation.  In 1985, he was named Associate Director of Men's Athletics.  The Cy Fritz Track & Field Open and the Cy Fritz Foundation have been named in his honor.  He was inducted into the MU Athletics and PA Sports Halls of Fame.  While he coached athletes, what he really did was develop people.  Many of his athletes have said they are the person they are now as a result of Cy Fritz and his programs.


Sponsorship Director

Scott Wagner is a 1985 graduate of Millersville University. He competed in track and field and cross country and was a member of the 1981 National Championship Cross Country squad. With a career background in sales, marketing, nonprofit fundraising and business ownership, Scott currently works as a corporate wellness consultant for the Benecon Group. When not working or volunteering for the Cy Fritz Foundation, he enjoys spending time with his wife Nancy or cycling with friends on the back roads of Lancaster.


Board Member

Aurora Conrad is a 2024 graduate of Millersville University, where she was a sprint athlete for five years, competing from 2019 to 2024. During her collegiate career, Aurora was part of the 2022 PSAC Championship-winning team, contributing to the program’s success both on and off the track. As a Cy Fritz Foundation Board member, Aurora is deeply passionate about empowering athletes and advocating for resources that support their growth and development. She is committed to ensuring that every athlete has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential and make lasting impacts within the sport. Aurora is now a special education teacher at E. R. Martin School in the School District of Lancaster. 


Board Member

Jo Rupp is a 1996 graduate of Millersville University. She is a Senior Financial Institutions Examiner for the Pennsylvania Department of Banking & Securities. She is also a National Level official for USA Track and Field. A walk-on to the track and cross country teams, Jo went on to earn conference, regional, and national honors. She was inducted into the MU Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, and is currently serving on the selection committee. Jo is still very active in Masters Track and Field & Cross Country. She competed in the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2024. 


Board Member

Sunflower Greene, a 2019 graduate of Millersville University with a degree in finance and marketing, was a shot, hammer, and disc thrower for the team from 2015-2019. She was inducted into the Millersville University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024 and continued the legacy of dominance from the MU throwers. As a CFF Board member, Greene hopes to continue to work towards improving the experience of current athletes and paving the way for future Marauders to have more opportunities and experience. Greene works as a financial analyst at High Real Estate Group and works as a volunteer assistant with Millersville’s throwers.


Student-athlete Committee

The Student-Athlete Committee gets one vote collective on the Board of Directors.  This position represents the Millersville University cross country and track & field athletes that benefit from the Cy Fritz Foundation.  Below are the current students representing this position.

 

Emily Beers, Class of 2026, is a student-athlete at Millersville University, competing as a mid-distance runner while pursuing a degree in mathematics secondary education. As a member of the Cy Fritz Foundation Board's Student-Athlete Committee and a student representative for cross country on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), she is dedicated to advocating for her fellow athletes and ensuring they have access to the resources necessary to excel both on and off the track. She is passionate about fostering a supportive community within Millersville’s track & field program. She believes every athlete should have the opportunity to reach their full potential without financial barriers limiting their growth. She is committed to ensuring financial challenges do not hinder athletes' success, advocating for scholarships, travel, training, competition, and access to essential gear and equipment. Through her involvement with the Cy Fritz Foundation, she aims to give back to the program that has shaped her college experience, while helping future student-athletes thrive. With a passion for teaching, she is excited to use her future career to empower students, providing the guidance and support they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond, just as she is dedicated to supporting her peers in their journey as student-athletes.
