WELCOME TO THE CY FRITZ FOUNDATION

Legendary coach Eugene “Cy” Fritz

The Cy Fritz Foundation was incorporated in August, 2015 to enhance and promote personal development and competitive opportunities for athletes participating in cross country and track & field at Millersville University.  The Foundation was founded by former athletes and current and former coaches of Millersville University’s cross country and track & field programs. Their passion for the programs prompted them to take action to ensure that the current athletes are properly funded to stay competitive.  From that, the idea for a Foundation was born.  The Foundation is named after Eugene “Cy” Fritz, the most successful coach in Millersville University history and the legendary coach that guided the 1981 men's cross country team to a NCAA Division II National Championship.

This website is for and about the Foundation and Millersville University cross country and track & field.  It is the largest single source of information about the rich history of the programs.  You can also find information about Cy Fritz Foundation events and races like the Millersville Turkey Trot, Millersville Metrics, Cy Fritz Track & Field Open, Tom Ecker Middle School Meet, and annual reunions.

This site also includes over 4,000 pictures!  There are pictures of EVERY Millersville yearbook page that pertains to cross country and track & field from 1912 to 2012, the final year MU produced a yearbook. There are also personal pictures from coaches and alumni

Do you have any pictures, documents, and or anything you'd like to share?  We'd love to include them on the site.  We'd also like to know your suggestions on how we can improve the Foundation and this site.  Please email CyFritzFoundation@gmail.com.

SUPPORTING THE programs

In today’s climate of decreasing state funding, college athletic teams face budget challenges. These challenges affect several opportunities.  First, it affects the number of athletes the teams can support. Athletics play an important role in the college experience, but also in building and instilling traits that will successfully carry the athletes into the future. A Millersville University student should not be denied opportunities because of funding issues. Second, current athletes are affected by a decreasing budget. Decreasing funds translate into fewer scholarships, training opportunities, and meets. The Cy Fritz Foundation was founded to supplement the financial support provided by Millersville University.

Millersville University cross country and track & field coach Andy Young explains why it's important to support the current teams by donating to the Cy Fritz Foundation.

After the men’s programs were eliminated on February 14, 2012, many former athletes stopped supporting Millersville University, but continued to FIGHT for the reinstatement of the programs. However, many want to still support the current cross country and track & field athletes. The Cy Fritz Foundation is a way to accomplish that as it is a completely separate entity from Millersville University.

It is the mission of this Foundation to enhance and promote personal development and competitive opportunities for athletes participating in Cross Country and Track and Field at Millersville University. We hope you agree and join our efforts in supporting the Cy Fritz Foundation.
